So I was just watching some SC2 videos, and it's made me realise.. That shit is so much easier than Starcraft 1 (with Brood war).. So many of the game mechanics have been made easier.

Has anybody actually played 1 and 2?

Played SC1 briefly. Since I'm used to SC2, found SC1 really strange (both graphically and gameplay wise). Was annoyed that for some reasons my probes would stop mining half the time on their own will :D

Seemed an okay game, but I prefer SC2. It's visually clearer to me and I've obviously played it a lot more so understand it better. But not only that, my Probes (so cute! :D) always mine properly without stopping and you can hotkey more units together (to make A-move better hehe).

Only annoyance in SC2 is the balance. Terran OP (Marines), Zerg OP (Roaches/Mutas), Protoss UP (Mothership not powerful enough). (JOKING FFS).

In seriousness, get SC2 if you can. It's fun and there's plenty of people who play:

Myself- Protoss (firm believer that Protoss UP of course :D )
McWill- Protoss (can play random well too ^^)
Wynney- Terran (the wall... because he's Terran... which means good luck breaking his wall down ;) )
Dave- Zerg (apparently abusive with dem Banelings!)
Nannal- Protoss (he likes Zealots... lots of Zealots)
Metty- Zerg (no, they're not glorious John...)

More people playing = more monobattles we can do. Monobattles being the term where everyone is randomly assigned a race and a single unit, and that's all you can make. Workers excluded, and 1 queen per hatchery for Zerg (unless they get assigned queens, then they can mass queens ^^). If you're given Warp Prisms/Overlords/Medivacs, have fun ;)
Or we can play KOTH games. KOTH being king of the hill, mass 1v1 battles whilst everyone watches. Much lols happen on mumble.
Campaign is good to let you into the game, understand fundamentals and what units do. Gives you insight into both the Protoss and Terran race (Terran more so than Protoss). We're also all here to give you general tips and advice on how to play the races.

In most games, I get annoyed by bad graphics. In starcraft they don't bother me at all. I rarely ever get probes stopping mining, I believe it happens when they can't find a node to mine at! I'm going to get it once I get an actually working PC! I presume that a warp prism can't deal damage?
What are queens like in SC2? In 1 they're literally just used to spawn broodlings in enemies and to use a slow ability :| (and terran command centre takeover, that's always fun)

I didn't play the campaign for SC1, I just kept playing against a bot until I could win!
It's easy to play isn't it? Spam marines, spam banelings/mutas or spam zealots/goons?

Warp Prisms are transports for Protoss so no, they do no damage, unlucky if you get them for a monobattle :P
Queens are good in SC2. They inject hatcheries so you can spawn more units, they can heal other units with their transfuse ability and they can lay down creep tumours to spread the creep out (Zerg get vision of everything on the creep bar cloaked units, and move far faster when walking on creep than off).

SC2 is only as easy as your opponent is in my opinion. Whether it's easier than SC1, I can't say. At low levels, I suppose you could say all you do is spam Marines for Terran, spam Zerglings/Roaches for Zerg and spam Zealots for Protoss. When you face better opponents, you need a lot more strategy than that :P

Queens are quite different in SC2. They have a 'spawn larvae' ability that spawns additional larvae at the hatchery the ability is used on after a time delay. They have a 'transfusion' ability that allows them to heal other units, and a 'spawn creep tumor' ability which can place a creep tumor down on existing creep to help extend it further. All Zerg units move faster on creep, especially the Queen though, which is VERY slow off creep.

Ahh right, how big is the download?
I might see if it will start running, as a fair few things don't work for me at the moment..

late posting but i'm bored.
sc2 is quite a bit easier than brood war. multiple building selection, auto mine, infinite (255) unit selection, working ai etc. still a decently high skill ceiling that we are in no danger of hitting and its shiny :)
my folder is a little over 10gb

I'm trying to imagine Brood War with those features, and it just seems bat-shit crazy, since that's what I grew up (the last few months?) playing! I wish I was like Dave though :( Being Korean would be the best!

With the newest game update, I cannae remember what it's called, aren't they raising the unit cap to 300? I vaguely remember Hawke telling me that, will you still only be able to select 255 of them?

No idea if they're raising the unit cap. Seems a bit pointless since you can only have 200 units maximum on the field due to supply limits unless your Zerg and you put down 70 spinecrawlers, make 70 units then cancel the spines to get 270 units (no idea if that actually works by the way, I know pros sometimes use it to get 204 supply or something) or you mass lings...

That was my point though, if they were raising the supply cap to 300 :p
What's a spinecrawler?

A spine-crawler is a defensive Zerg structure evolved from a Zerg drone. When a Zerg drone starts to evolve in to a structure such as a spine-crawler it no longer counts towards the Zerg player's unit count.

What's a spinecrawler?

If they're increasing the supply cap to 300, that is a huge change that I've personally not actually heard of at all. If they do that, people would need far better computers or lower their graphical settings because that'd make team games a hell of a lot harder to play outside of quickly cheesing/all-inning your opponent before 300/300 armies then attack each other.
1v1 it MAY be acceptable on the PC requirements, but depending on the units, 300/300 armies may be a resource drain and make late-game micro really difficult to do (insert Terran QQ since they basically live off stutterstepping with bio).

A spinecrawler's a defensive anti-ground structure for the Zerg. Built from a drone when you've got a Spawning Pool, it's a very powerful semi-static defensive structure.

i cant see them upping the cap limit tbh, apart from the fact it will rape alot of the player bases' PC's it will throw game balance out the window. Zerg will frequently manage to get 100 supply advantages and rape you early unless you cripple them, a maxed protoss army will not die to anything, anytime ever never never and terran will indeed QQ because why the <LOOK MA, I AM SWEARING> would i care if i'm being dropped if i can 1 shot your army as soon as i attack?

as for the spine crawler. imagine in your head, the lurker, picture what it does, think of all the reasons lurkers are cool and awesome. now, take all those things away. voilà, the spine crawler.

EDIT: TvT with even more tanks T_T Wyn noob be pleased HAhahaaa

Why would you use tanks in TvT? That's absurd.
Sending a cloaked banshee every few minutes is always fun. Forces them to either build a lot of missile turrets, waste orbital energy or (generally tech up to) build ravens!

yeah i prefer three, one at home, one at enemy base and one with army but one is enough if i just have it between main and natural. will have it fly over in plenty of time to stop your banshee :)

You'd put a missile turret near their base?
