I'm nearly 17. When I turn 17 I will be able to do a theory and practical test to get a full driving license. Does anybody here have any tips to passing both the theory and the practical test? (jokes are welcome too)

This will also be useful for other people who finally turn 17 and want to start driving.

Tip #1: Always do what your driving examiner tells you to do, even if he tells you to mount the pavement and kill his ex-wife or if he tells you to roll down the window and call his hated enemy who is on a bike a <insert classic Sniper word here>.

I'm not really the one to ask, but yeah, the home CD things are good. Revise for the Theory a lot, the Hazard {erception is common sense.

But for the HP, learn the system. If you can see a hazard, stall a bit on clicking for it... I missed a few because I clicked "too" early for it to be a hazard... :/ The Theory is easy though, pratical... I have no advice for that as I am yet to pass :|

Ah the hazard perception test...
To be fair, everything is a hazard, except a... wait no a pedestrian is a hazard, so is a cyclist, a lorry, a train, a sheep, the guy examining me, Skillers...
I trust they want hazards like a lorry suddenly pulling into your lane which would result in a crash... and I don't feel like doing the test properly and clicking the button everytime I see something new on the screen. In that case, it really is common sense.

Getting insured on a car and driving with the company of somebody over the age of 21 who can drive is useful.

Don't have your lessons too far apart. You may end up doing mostly what you did last lesson.

It's actually both, the person needs to be over 21 and have 3 years of having a licence.

As for hazard perception, try the CD things for that too. As Dave said, you can get no points for being too early. The way I found to do it was to press as soon as I saw a hazard then a second later, or if it changed. Press again if it's really long. You're looking for things that would affect the way you drive - cyclists, cars pulling up, turning off, breaking, buses pulling out. Don't worry about pressing too much aslong as you are sensible you are fine. Don't press rhythmically to cheat the system, it detects it.

Well, I guess the main things you need to know (that people tend to do once they've passed their test regardless) that you can easily do in a test that make you fail are:
a) Crossing over your hands when turning the wheel.
b) "Coasting", i.e. going into neutral while going downhill as to save gas. The instructor considers that dangerous as you aren't really "in control".
c) Staying in first gear if you stall. If you do happen to stall, you should go into neutral and then into first gear once you've started up the car.

Well, if you are at the final test. The Tester watches your speed, not only that you are too fast. He actually watches if you use the speed. you just cant drive with a new BMW with 80kp/h on the Autobahn. Well, you can. But you shouldnt.

I will revise over the weekend and make a few tests. and when i pass again on Tuesday, i will register for the Theory Test.

The Autobahns are the only place you can fully drive to the car's maximum speed capabilities. Otherwise getting a car that can do 220mph is a waste since you will spend most of your time doing 30mph.

There are advantages.

Since in case you are in a fast environment somehow, you will have practice dealing with it, reducing the extent of the injury. Speed doesn't kill, having no idea how to control your speed does :P
