Right, I had a major think last night after I went to bed, and I've been thinking this morning.

I've been told getting to Grade 7 piano is no mean feat. It got me thinking about music as a viable career option in some way.

This would mean University.

I have a few issues though. First, I have been 'stagnating' and 'drifting' in terms of piano. I have quite frankly not been putting enough effort in and have come the conclusion that having gone a bit lazy in terms of practice since my grade 7, I've got worse.

HOWEVER, thinking positively, I believe I can recover this and get better if I put in a lot of practice to pull myself back up and beyond.

Another issue is that when I took music at GCSE, I didn't put as much effort in as I could have done, and I only got a C. And I did not pursue it to AS/A Level.

I feel that this may be important and a major point if I want a career in music. I don't what to do here.

Further, should I go further in my music theory? I am currently up to Grade 5.

I would greatly appreciate other people's input, as well as suggesting pieces for me to play, as currently I don't have many pieces I can currently play under my belt.

EDIT: I don't care where it's from, be it a game, modern, Jazzy, etc, I do not care how hard. All I ask is that if you have a link to the sheet music, please post it as it saves me looking, and that it has some sort of tune and key (not too atonal >-< ). Thanks.

ok john to a lesser extent for me, but any how i'm tryign to do an access to higher education course that occurs over a year preparing you for uni, the main requirements being proof you can work at a level 3 or something, but our A levels cover that.

Any how i'm looking to do the health and social course on it and then i think gloucester or bristol uni.

Any how theirs other paths too. including creative arts which i'm not sure but could include music?

I'm calling them up later to book my place for an information session so i'll ask then for you (as in see if there is a music pathway.

Also theres computing pathway and a couple of others here too but i doubt your about to do sports pathline. i'm sure as hell not :P

The more I think about it, the more music is appealing to me than a future in computing (only computing, not music and computing). I'm certainly better at piano than anything I can do on the PC.

I really want to try and play this, I heard Shadow play it on his keyboard, and apparently he learnt it by ear. I'm going to work on it when I get home this afternoon and this evening. I may not be online for a bit whilst I do this, I'll post my progress up.

Watch this video on Youtube.

I will learn this, I WILL. Shadow told me it's in C-Minor, although iirc he also said it changes key and is out of tune (if my memory serves me >-< ).

I'm just going to be listening to this all day today whilst I'm working on my IT course. If I'm feeling really confident I might post some ideas as to what I think the notes are (although I don't have what Shadow terms as 'perfect pitch', where you can tell what a note is just by hearing it, so this may be wrong until I can test it when I get home).

Nobody spoil this, this is me trying to learn something for myself. An attempt at confidence boosting. Anyone 'spoiling' will I swear to god be banned permanently.

EDIT:

Just to note, pieces already suggested:

The Heart Asks Pleasure First- Michel Nyman
Le Onde- Ludovico Einaudi
Moonlight Sonata- Ludwig Van Beethoven
Pour Le Piano: Sarabande- Claude Debussy
Victor's Piano Solo - Danny Elfman

Gah, you got in whilst I was editing my post.

I'm not familiar with the sonic games (aside from a demo of an oooold game on PC called 'Sonic CD' that I did enjoy many years back but never got the full version.

I shalt google a youtube video or something with the soundtrack!

Sonic Green Hill Zone! :D awesome gaming music ^_^ must be a paino performance of it out there :P.

Watch this video on Youtube.

One of his latest game music's - not half as good, but tbh if it was a video rather than a game i'd give it full marks for being awesome looking! I hear the game wasn't very good.

There's several different pieces in that first video. If you could find any sheet music I'd be more than happy to try. It sounds a bit, urm, odd though. I'm not sure how it would come out on piano. I remember DHR gave me sheet music for something called the Oil Ocean Zone, but I never really bothered to play it. I may still have the sheet music around somewhere.

The second vid was ok until people started singing. I haven't been watching the videos, only listening to them. And the second video wasn't too much to my liking. Sorry.

With regards to the haunted church music (I'm working this out as I work on my IT and pasting the notes into notepad), and it's probably wrong, but hey, I'll find that out at home!).

Note that this is only for the main theme, I haven't dared to tackle any of the beginning chords or backing chords (so basically this is just the right hand, but I will persevere).

Currently I have:
£ symbol represents flat, ie A-flat.
Code:
C, G, C,
G, A£, B,
B, C, D,
C, G, C,
*then it changes key*

When I've worked out what the key change is, I'll post some more. >-<

I realise this doesn't actually help because you don't know if I'm moving up or down the notes, but if you listen to it then you'll hopefully understand (if I'm right).

cool except im not musically gifted so i don't understand much, and if the notes aren't written on the keys i'd be playign in wrong pitch and of course im too slow for real tempo.

Also i phone gloscol for myself, she believes there is a music course at the college, but she doesn't know about the access to higher education course and if creative arts entales music :/

She said you'd have to contact student support if you wanted to find out about it. sorry i couldn't help you more.

No worries.

I just found a virtual keyboard to test my notes (http://www.yellow-gold-soft.com/distrib/VPiano.zip) and it when I play it out I'm now convinced it's not in C minor. D:

I thought it was. Maybe the out-of-tuneness is confusing me.

It seems to be

C, G, C
G A£ B£ B
B D£ E£
C, G, C

:(

EDIT:

C, G, C
G,
A£, B£, B,
B, D£, E£,
C, G, C,
G,
F*, G*, A*, B, C*, D*, E*, F*, (Basically F* major scale >-< )

C, G, C
G, A£, B£, B,
B, D£, E£,

C
G B
D
E£, D,
D, C

B£ C D B£

D E£
F
G
E£ A£ G F E£ D£ F
D£ E£ F D
E£ F D
E£ F G E£
A£ G F E£
G F E£ D
C, G, C,

I will now try to work out the left hand chords.

I will, thanks.

When I get home I'm going to have the haunted church music put onto my mp3 player, then I'm going to work out the backing and the early notes.

And the fast bit (which sounds almost like scales, but there's something odd about it, I swear).

EDIT: I just can't get the backing chords, I can hear them, I know what they should sound like, but I can't for the life of me pin it to a chord. I think I've got the first one

C (held)

Then

B D F A£ B

Each one held as you press them.

But I can't get the rest. I'm at grade 7 and I can't do this. It's pathetic. :'(

Maybe music isn't for me, even though I want to. I want to be better. Artistic talent and some musical talent has run in the family yet most of it has passed me by. Why me, I feel I'm meant for more than this.

Given Metritutus the sheet music for the Haunted Church. Wrote it out myself specially for him (I played it from memory and ear but now have the music as well).
Will look around for some more sheet music I can give to him soon.

Thanks. I've been trying to learn it. The early bits are easy enough but the sections where it goes faster will need a bit more work. >-<
