I woke up feeling mildly refreshed, but still pretty groggy because I have a nasty cold at the moment. I get dropped off at Tesco in Gloucester at about 7:20am and buy some organic semi-skimmed milk and some Minute Maid oranbge juice. I get to work and decide to shuffle around my desk a bit to make it look a bit neater. I was just unsheathing a monitor cable when as I pulled it away, my elbow hit the top of the monitor and it came crashing down on to the corner of the PC. I am now sitting in front of a broken 19" flat screen monitor and none of my colleagues are in yet. What is the best way to explain what has happened? How can I get out of this mess without my payslip being revoked?

Ouch, I have no idea how you can get out of it, maybe just explain it was an accident, and hope?

Well, I just told my colleagues that I broke the monitor myself accidentally. They took it very well. I was asked to process a replacement form through our ordering channel and wait for authorisation. I guess if it doesn't get authorised, then maybe I will get in to some trouble!

Wow, that's quite an impressive break.

you could have replaced it with someone elses and let them take blame..... or. walk out and come in late and say "OMFG WHAT HAPPENED HERE!"

I somehow think that premise wouldn't last long, Ash! xP

Especially since I had already updated our database to say that I was working with that particular monitor only the day before! Honesty is the best policy.
