Anyone into RC flying at all?

I used to be a few years ago, and have recently got back into it. Been doing gliding on an irregular basis for the past couple of years, and going to get back into powered soon. Quite a fan of deltas/flying wings, the Wildthing is my favourite glider, and I just picked up an electric flying wing today, may be flying it tomorrow.

You know my dad is. Not me though.

I dissected a frog once.

Looks pretty light, aren't you afraid that it'll get carried away by the Wind?

This reminds me, my dad took a load of videos using his FlyCamOne2 that I still need to put on YouTube. You can get a good birds eye view (planes eye view) of my old house, garden and surrounding fields lol.

@Schlurbi: It is pretty light, but it would take quite some wind to blow it away even if the motor was stopped (especially when considering the weight of the battery).

@Aaron: My dad has a FlyCam Eco which he's used a few time, even some vids on youtube: powered and glider.

@DHR: Pretty much. I was actually looking to get a Zagi or something similar and modify it for powered, but saw this for £30 at Much Marcle (no gear included), which was much cheaper and easy. TBF, flying wings aren't exactly uncommon.

Nah they aren't at all. Even then most aren't "true" flying wings as they still have vertical surfaces (regardless of whether they have a rudder or not).

Yeah, the flying wing is definitely not a common image at all :P

Ooops... >_< Misread "Uncommon" as "Common" :/ hence the mistake :P

But yeah :/ Apart from the B2, there aren't that many "True" Flying wings... Mostly experimental stuff though. It's much easier on a smaller scale because the chord size doesn't have to be huge :/

Heh, makes sense ><

I think as far as real planes go, rudderless flying wings are generally an exercise in pointlessness as rudders are pretty important to general stability etc. Only reason the B2 doesn't have a rudder is for stealth reasons.

Of course, with small planes, the rules become a lot slacker (though it's worth noting most the flying wings still have stabilising rudders - they're on the end of the wings) and flying wings become common place as they're so simple - mine was 6 pieces of foam (2 wings, 2 rudders, 2 control surfaces, pre glued to the wings) and a carbon fibre strut, a bit of wood and a velcro strap for the battery, plus radio gear. IIRC, we bought it and built it either the same day or the next day (in an evening) then flew it a day or two later. Such a good flier too, so easy to just throw around.
